Spire FM; Day Two June 9, 2010

As part of my second day I took the other work experience girl ‘under my wing’, as I am familiar with the company I could help her with the tasks that she was being given.
I taught her how to record adverts into the system, look them up and burn them onto a disc for the clients. At some point I apparently will also be taking her out to record some vox as she was unable to do it on Monday.
Today I also recorded some more vox with a charity stand that was set up in the town centre. Alongside this I also had a couple of questions about fashion and living a healthy lifestyle.

Making My Return To Spire FM June 8, 2010

After finishing at Kaboosh, I arranged to do my second week of placement at Spire FM. My local radio station in Salisbury. I’ve done some work with them before so it was nice to be back in the office again. I knew what to expect when I came in and after having a bit of a catch up with everyone it was back to work again as if I’d never been away. I went out to do some vox pops with the people of Salisbury. Our local football team are appealing against relegation and I had to get people to record good luck messages for the news bulletins. I also had to ask people about the world cup for Chris (the breakfast DJ) to use on his show over the next few weeks.

Vox’s have always been a bit of a weak point for me because it’s completely out of my comfort zone going up to random people in the street and talking to them. I managed to get a few good ones today that were useable but there seemed to be very few football supporters in town today, which was quite annoying and made the job a lot harder, in turn making me more nervous about it! I still prefer doing the editing stuff in Adobe Audition because I can perfect what I’ve recorded and make it more useable, it’s also more of what I’m comfortable with. It was a good day though and it’s nice to be back working with everyone again.

Kaboosh; Day Two May 5, 2010

So I was right, day two was no better than day one. We made banners today for the website. But not just banners, oh no, static banners. How wonderfully dull. They seem to have no real idea of design. Personally, I liked the designs we made before they had all life tweaked out of them. I think that the company needs to rethink their target audience. For example, they have a competition where you can win a record deal, with this they have little monsters advertising it and, in my opinion, it is horrifically childish. When I was making one of mine I was ‘advised’ to put speech bubbles in it so it looks like people are saying the words. I had done this earlier on and decided it looked disgusting so I was less than enthusiastic to put it back on (only to take it off again). This is going to be a long fortnight. I’m desperately looking forward to the days where I am finishing earlier or have off to go to work.

These are the two banners that I was given A WHOLE DAY to make (completely unnecessary time frame):

In all honesty, the first day was a bit of a disappointment; however, if I had read Dommi’s blog beforehand, it would have completely met my expectations. I never really had high expectations in the first place, when I heard that the others did a lot of Flash stuff I wondered why I had been put forward for this because I have not used Flash since GCSE and absolutely despise it. I have avoided it thus far though. I cannot say the same for Photoshop however, another programme that I despise. I went to use Maya for a task we were set this morning, but because we’re not at the University the licenses for it are not valid so it does not open. At all, which was an instant downer on the day. I hope tomorrow’s better, but I’m not going to count on it because I doubt that it will be.
