Top open up the motion sketching window: Window ➝ Motion Sketch. This lets you move the shape around the screen as opposed to making lots of different keyframes.

Making masks:
New solid ➝ Simple mask, the pink arrow button lets you change the shape and the mask button makes masks of different shapes. Making masks allows you to cover things up on the screen.
